This neighbour was creating not Joy all around him!
About a year ago, I spotted an elderly man sitting on the Beach, looking sad and reading a book. I asked what he was reading and he told me a book about theĀ Holocaust.
I asked if that made him happy and he looked at me as though I had 2 heads, was quiet for a moment and then slowly said, “Oh, I should read books that make me happy.”

A year has passed and he finally accepted my offer of a book to read. An easy to read, murder mystery with espionage and world travel.
This morning I saw him sitting on the Beach and reading my book with a smile on his face!
I asked if he was enjoying the book and he said “Yes! I’m traveling all over the world through this book!”
And then he added “sitting on the Beach, in the cool breeze, reading my book, is much better than sitting lonely in the casino.”
He said “Where did You get this book?”
“From a friend and when You are finished please give it to one of Your friends.”
He replied, “If I had friends like You I would be happy all the time, just like You!”
“Now You know what to look for!” I replied and smiled.
He gave me the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on his face and said “Yes, now I know what to look for in a friend.” Ā and THEN he laughed!
Putting a smile on someone’s face is the best thing I can think of to share. Ā And hearing someone laugh is like God smiling at me.
